COLLECTIVE NARRATIVES SHIFT POWER
THE CARE COLLECTIVE
People whose labor doesn’t necessarily produce a product or an innovation ready for patenting, but whose labor is at the heart of sustaining life for all of us, know what is needed. And they know that when care work is supported, it can be some of the most fulfilling, creative, and radical work of our lives. Let us urgently recognize care as something core to our expression of humanity, not something we outsource, neglect, or diminish, rather something we aspire to do and be better at. We acknowledge care work is critical and informs all our other work as artists, educators, scientists, entrepreneurs, writers, and humans.

#MyJobShouldNotIncludeAbuse
This was not an expose because nothing in these stories that was a revelation for those working in our industry. Instead it was the beginning of a power shift. In November 2017, over 48 hours hundreds of models came forward to share stories of sexual harassment and abuse through the social media accounts of over 70 industry influencers. This brought the #metoo movement to fashion.

CUSTOM COLLABORATIVE CAMPAIGN
Custom Collaborative envisions a world in which all women possess the skills, confidence, and agency to design their futures and contribute to a sustainable world. Bringing together CC design residents, Platform Six productions, photographer Camila Falquez, and model leaders, this photoshoot is a vision for what a sustainable, inclusive fashion industry can look like. This is what happens when we invest in creatives who rarely get the time, space, and support to make.

interrupt magazine
Interrupt was the first participatory magazine of its kind. A new editor-in-chief and editorial staff took over each issue. By resourcing storytellers, with a focus on youth marginalized and misrepresented by mainstream media, with the assets of a magazine -- office space, editors, graphic designers, photographers, filmmakers, and artists -- we co-created content that delighted, intrigued, and inspired our audience.
The project was born after hundreds of women responded to an open letter Cameron Russell wrote asking, “What would you say if you had access to mass media?” after her TED talk on privilege and access to media went viral . Through this new project, the New York Times reported, Interrupt hopes to "share the press with some women who really are doing fantastic things" -- offering the limelight to people who wouldn't necessarily be offered it otherwise -- and the results, reports CNN, are “changing the conversation.”
model mafia
Some of the most exciting work we’re doing with Model Mafia (the community of over 200 models working toward a more equitable, just, sustainable industry and world) is about performance. How can we make images and tell stories in mainstream media that celebrate the collective? What does it look like to showcase community over single celebrities? In a radical portfolio in Porter Magazine we got to run FOUR COVERS featuring 17 leaders, and take group shots featuring even more leadership. See the story here.

VILLIAGE VANGUARD
Fashion is a collective language, from the way it is made, from soil to skin, to the way we use it to communicate to each other—to belong, to stand out, to remember, to resist—and even to how we work on set—model, photographer, hairdresser, makeup artist, and stylist making images together. So to see what works we have to see an ecosystem. This portfolio, this collection of fashion practitioners, curated for PRESENT SPACE magazine was my attempt to pull back and see–from weavers, to researchers, to ballroom performers, to designers, to activists–a portrait of radical love blooming all across our industry. When you weave the vertical threads are called the warp, they provide the necessary structure for the weft, the filling, to weave across. The skill and constancy of these five practitioners who hold so much and so many together is part of the warp. I hope it inspires weaving.

we are the youth
We partnered with frequent collaborator, photographer Laurel Golio, and her journalist partner Diana Scholl, in order to amplify their existing online effort We Are The Youth, a photographic journalism project chronicling the individual stories of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth in the United States. The project addresses the lack of visibility of LGBT young people by providing a space to share stories in an honest and respectful way. We helped them determine an innovative and provocative presentation of stories, informed by our experience navigating new media, zine culture and mainstream media formats. We believe there is world-changing potential in sharing the stories of LGBT and queer youth to a large audience in a widely accessible format.
"WE ARE THE YOUTH BRILLIANTLY ILLUSTRATES THE COMPLEXITY, BEAUTY, AND DIVERSITY OF LGBT YOUTH. THIS BOOK CAPTURES THE HEART AND SOUL OF WHAT IT MEANS TO NEGOTIATE SEXUALITY AND GENDER IDENTITY IN TODAY'S WORLD."
-Danah Boyd, It's Complicated: The Social Lives of Networked Teens
"THIS IS SUCH AN AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL AND TIMELY BOOK."
-Jacqueline Woodson, Miracle's Boys
